As per World Health Organization (WHO), India is having a great shortage of skilled manpower in respect of Eyes and the following statistics is as per WHO Report.
Population Served by Skilled/Unskilled

On analyzing the above statistics we can conclude that the number of skilled manpower in India is very less and as such they serve larger population as compared to not only developed countries but even to developing country.
Further studies have indicated that:
- Nearly 1/4 of the practicing Ophthalmologists are reaching retirement age.
- By 2020 the projected number of Optometrists required annually will be 35,000.
- On an average only 350-400 Optometrists graduate every year from various Colleges of Optometry in India.
- There will be a shortage of more than half for next few years.
Demand for Ophthalmic Assistants and Optometrists
In view of the huge demand of Optometrist and Ophthalmic Assistants in India in general and Andhra Pradesh in particular, Pushpagiri Eye Institute is pleased to announce following two courses to be conducted under the Andhra Pradesh Para Medical Board:
