| Cornea and Refractive Surgery |
The cornea is the transparent dome-shaped layer in front of the eye. It helps bending the light rays and focusing them on the light-sensitive retina at the back of the eye. An optimum curvature of the refractive surfaces of the eye (cornea, lens, length of eyeball) is required to accurately focus the light rays on the retina for a clear image. Various infections, inflammations, injuries and genetic diseases reduce the transparency of the cornea and interfere with vision.
